This will be my comments area. Feel free to ask questions, leave comments or suggestions. You can even say you hate it and think it's ugly if you want.

I am working on getting my stuff together for a photo shoot tonight so I'll have something interesting to see. On a good note, my nephews funeral has been changed to Saturday so that all of the family that is traveling from out of state can make it, this is a good thing. It also means I'll be able to get something done on the shell this week with any luck.

Paint a sequence of scenes of a small box fighting a Big box.:D

Or you could definately do something bio-mechanical or the t100 skeleton from terminator to go with the steel shell concept. part airbrush part natural shell...?

My original idea was to do an "Aliens" themed design since those movies were kinda steely looking. Biomechanical is another option that has been rolling around in my noggin. Sometimes it's easier to design a finish when I don't have to decide on it myself.

I would dig the small box eating the big box....or a whole lot of small boxes eating the big box:D

Here's a thought. Steel wool the shell. Put a coat of clear on it. Tape off a design like a filigree, vines, barbed wire (something sinuous), horizontally. Then put on the color. The 'design' will be brush steel, set in a field of color.

Just my $.02

Cool ideas! It will probably incorporate the natural steel as well as paint, just not sure how yet.

What's wrong with the V'Gine drum? Too intimidating with that big vent wasn't it? :D

Nah, too small of a vent.

I think you see this one coming: howzabout a naked lady, with a flaming sword and a skull.

What about a Mangina? Now that would be cool! The vent could be an adjustable iris, so it would look like a pucker! There's a visual.

I'm leaving in a couple hours for the trip up north. I'll be back Tuesday sometime and will get busy "assembling" my paint job and drum. Until then, good luck to all of the other builders and keep your hose out of the paint . . . or table saw if you're using one on this build. :D

W 'Sup Kurt (sp?),

You know, my Russian is not what it used to be and my slang is even worse but your signature is rather amusing. The roughest (very rough) translation of your signature puts me somewhere around...

"My box is bigger than yours." Am I close? Вы говорите на русском языке? (Do you speak Russian?) None-the-less, I love the ingenuity behind the "encoded" signature considering the previous posts. Shoo art beddy shneeky comrad...beddy shneeky.

приветствия,
(Cheers)

Remember the old addage "lost in translation?" Those crazy Ruski's, they sure do make great Vodka though!

If you're using babelfish, fuhgetaboutit. I used to run simple Spanish through that until my Mexican workers couldn't laugh anymore.

Best wishes to you, Kurt, during this time of loss.

I used babelfish and goole translator. My Russian friend siad that the translation is correct, but it just doesn't make any sense.

It's actually supposed to say, "My what a large box you have." I just ran the translation again on The Google and it was totally different.

:D

Well fellas, I am back after a fun filled drive with a 6 month old baby. Turned a 12 hour trip home into a 20 hour one . . . sleep is waaay overrated.

I had a decision to make this weekend that has made building this snare right now impossible, I am respectfully bowing out of the competition. This is due to many things, the most significant being that between the expense of traveling as well as the opportunity to assist a few family members with some financial burdens this past weekend, which has put my personal drum building budget in the red for a few weeks, family comes first in my world. I am also currently swamped with orders and putting my own snare in front of other paying customers doesn't work for me.

I will continue working on this snare as time allows and will post some porn later. Thank you Sooy, GN and DF for putting this all together, I will join in on the next one. I wish all of the contestants the best with their builds, there is amazing talent being displayed I can't wait to see the final results!

Build on!

Damn, Kurt... that's a real bummer. As much I would have liked to see your finisjed drum, I do salute your priorities. You're a man of integrity and I respect that beyond any other human character.

Hey Kurt, you said that you were going to post a pic of your shop showing all of your customer's shells being finished...go for it!!!

Thanks for understanding my choice. I really struggled with the decision as I was really looking forward to spending some of Sooy's money. ;) However, once I made the choice I knew it was the correct one, it feels like I grew an extra lung from the pressure being released, and that is worth a $1000 bucks to me.

Once again, best of luck to everyone!

Soon.

Since Tommy let the cat out of the bag, I am waiting on a big box from AIT that is his project. Once they get here I'll be sure to post a photo of the lovely pile of wood I have been collecting :)
