What I like about your set up is no matter the size of drum/staves or amount of staves in a drum it can be done with a different angled sled. Router bits can get a little pricy and it would be a good option for ppl without the means to go the table...

Why wouldn't you just use a 9 or 11.25 degree chamfer router bit and a fence and just skip the sled if you want to use a router? ...

I've tried both methods and have found a table saw to be much better in terms of speed and getting a straight edge. Any jiggery pokery with angles, I use my disk sander. I didn't have a problem with danger with the sled but found I would get tear...

Would this device work better than a table saw? It looks a bit dangerous to me.

That looks pretty simple. I really appreciate the photo. I tend to over-think things, so it's good to see something simple that works.

Nice! I know it's standard practice (as far as I can tell) for stave shell builders to try and camouflage the seams between staves as much as possible, but I really like the way this drum looks, with the different staves being fairly visible.

Here is a picture of my 9 degree sled on my router table with a 1/2" straight bit in the router. I make the first cut then turn the stave around and make the second cut using shims behind it to get me the final width of the stave. I also have a 3/4"...

Checkered shells are fun to build... this one is a 7x13 with Walnut at the edges and Purple Heart and Rock Maple making up the checkered section.

Those are beautiful Terry. Not boring at all. The arrangement of the grain in that first shell is just beautiful.

They are sitting at 7/16 right now, maybe 13/32. I'm going to study some heads and look again at some Gretsch edges I thought about doing the combo deluxe and doing a 30 degree on the inside and a decent size round over on the outside.

I dig the curl in the wood, on top of being ambrosia. These are really going to look incredible. When it comes to edges, how are thick are these? if your like around 3/8, then I suggest no more than a 1/4" round over with a 30 or 45 inside cut,...

Yeah I'm definitely not a graphics artist :) I will ask some friends to help with the logo. Rubbing I did: Finished the shell with 400 grit. The random orbit sander did the trick inside the drum. First coat of varnish:

I think you should just stick to the name. It's not Pearl so everyone knows it's a custom build. If you want something that draws more attention you should get some help from a graphic artist. Not saying you suck at it. It's just an artist can give...
