Wow, that band looks amazing! My only concern about your build method would be the end grain to end grain glue up, although I admit to a lack of knowledge.

This one started last year I think, ive been planning on doing a walnut drum for a while now. I want to make my first set out of it actually. So its nice to finally work with it As you can see its a stave/segment hybrid. which brings me to my...

Here are a couple of in progress pics of the kick drum (its 20" btw) so you can see a little better detail of the finish, and what we did to it. We gouged it up and put some dents and other aging down before spraying the finish so it would look...

Yeah definitely, in making this kit I was trying to duplicate the sound of my favorite drummer, Jake Smelley. At least get as close as possible to his in studio sound without being in studio. He actually uses a Vinnie Paul snare so we did a 14x8...

I like acrylic kick drums. They sound massive. I had thought of making a wrapped kit with wood shell toms and an acrylic kick. The concept that the toms, snare and kick have different purposes and tunings makes sense, so maybe different types of...

I'll post more as soon as I can. She should be done within the next couple of weeks. It's actually Laurel burl! I love it. We did a light base coat with some gold flakes and the grain pops like crazy.

Yep it's an acrylic with wood veneer. Kind of just happened that way. I met with Josh and told him I wanted to do this super crazy vintage looking beat up and tarnished and relic looking kit, and he said "hey I've got these acrylic shells we can...

Alrighty...verdict is in--NOT changing a thing, except gonna throw an Earthtone batter, Diplomat snareside, and new wires on 'er. I have no idea on where to find the Snappy-Tone wires...I may just be an idiot, but no search seems to turn up...

He's legit. I've bought two of these and an old friend (literally old) who worked at slingerland, verified em by recognizing the circle impressions made during the steaming process. If those aren't there, it may not be vintage.

I'm another person for leaving it be! If anything can go wrong with changing parts, it will. Keep her together and don't even change a screw. New heads and wires will make it playable and you'll hurt it worse changing stuff than rocking it how it...

I apologize for getting a little over excited and feel the need to share any little step, but this wood is some of the coolest I have tried to work with. The outside lathed down very easily to a nice 12 7/8". there is one "punky" spot, about one...

If it were me I would put the correct new snares and heads on (maybe an Earthtone) and play it. Of course I play acoustic music and usually am not hitting that hard. If you're a Rock player probably not. That thing is a time machine. Find out where...
