Those are beautiful Terry. Not boring at all. The arrangement of the grain in that first shell is just beautiful.

They are sitting at 7/16 right now, maybe 13/32. I'm going to study some heads and look again at some Gretsch edges I thought about doing the combo deluxe and doing a 30 degree on the inside and a decent size round over on the outside.

I dig the curl in the wood, on top of being ambrosia. These are really going to look incredible. When it comes to edges, how are thick are these? if your like around 3/8, then I suggest no more than a 1/4" round over with a 30 or 45 inside cut,...

Yeah I'm definitely not a graphics artist :) I will ask some friends to help with the logo. Rubbing I did: Finished the shell with 400 grit. The random orbit sander did the trick inside the drum. First coat of varnish:

I think you should just stick to the name. It's not Pearl so everyone knows it's a custom build. If you want something that draws more attention you should get some help from a graphic artist. Not saying you suck at it. It's just an artist can give...

I tried a sanding wheel and it works great for the first rough sanding. It still remains the most time consuming part :(

From a local kitchen installer I got a leftover piece of kitchentop. It's big enough to glue sanding paper to one half and do a flatness test on the other half. To sand the inside I got a 120 grit sanding disc for on a angular grinder and...

Sanding the inside of router milled shells provides the largest motivation for me to learn how to use a lathe.

Yeah, it sucks. lol The outside is easy and almost done. The inside? I tried to make a contoured pad out of wood for my sander. It does "something" but it's not that great.

i found my little sheet palm sander (not random orbit) worked on the inside, and random orbital worked on the outside. You have to do a couple passes by hand with the grain to get scratches out though. I didnt bother too much with the inside, i...

On a stave shell, wouldn't a random orbit sander work? Or a contour sander? There must be a powered way to do it :) Though, I dunno what… When my dad and I made the only shell I've ever made (so far, waiting on funds for more), we sanded it on his...
